(Hong Kong, 25 September 2024) Tam Jai International Co. Limited (“TJI” or the “Company”, and together with its subsidiaries, the “Group”; HKEX stock code: 2217), one of the leading and renowned restaurant groups in Hong Kong, once again launched its signature “TJI Education Support Scheme for Employees’ Children” (the “Scheme”) this year. The Scheme awarded approximately HK$1.5 million in scholarships to 41 employees’ children to support their local university education. This year, the Scheme is enhanced with the “GAME Changer” programme, aimed at reinforcing the Group’s commitment to “Uplifting People” by providing mentorship and volunteering experiences to the children.
The term “GAME” represents “Grant”, “Advice”, “Mentorship” and “Experience”. Being a key highlight of the programme this year, the Group collaborated with three charities, including Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service – Hong Kong, The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Christian Service, to provide social “Experience” for the awardees. Three volunteering events were co-organised with the charities, enabling the children to gain hands-on experience in serving underprivileged communities in Hong Kong. By contributing more than 900 volunteer service hours to an aggregate of 230 individuals, covering new immigrants from Mainland China, students going to take public examination next year and those awaiting the announcement of their DSE public examination results, the awarded children learned the importance of giving back to the society using their personal strengths.
Two new elements introduced in the “GAME Changer” progamme are “Advice” and “Mentorship”, involving the active participation of nearly 50 staff members across all levels at TJI. These mentors and career advisors shared practical career insights and experiences with the children, with the goal of expanding their perspectives and enhancing their personal growth.
The 72-hour internship at stores remained the core element of the Scheme, allowing the children to experience personally their parents’ hard work, gain a deeper appreciation for their contributions and foster stronger parent-child bonding. In return, parents took pride in witnessing their children’s personal growth, capabilities and adaptability throughout the internship.
Mr. Daren Lau, Chairman, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tam Jai International, said, “This Scheme exemplifies our dedication to our ESG pillar of “Uplifting People”, expressing our care for our employees by easing their financial pressures through granting scholarships for their children. We are particularly grateful for the collaboration with the three charities in co-creating volunteering events to inspire our employees’ children towards community contributions, extending the influence of our motto of ‘giving back to society’ to the next generation. We look forward to continuing our efforts in nurturing young talents and creating positive social impact in the future.”
Since its launch in 2015, around HK$7.3 million in scholarship funds have been distributed to a total of 223 children of the Group’s employees. Successful applicants receive subsidies of up to 80% towards their children’s tuition fees at local universities for each academic year.
