(Hong Kong, 31 March 2022) – Tam Jai International Co. Limited (“TJI” or the “Company”; TJI together with its subsidiaries as the “Group”; HKEX stock code: 2217) is pleased to announce that it has opened its first branded TamJai SamGor Mixian (“SamGor”) restaurant in Japan at Chuodori, Shinjuku today, marking a historic step in the Group’s development of the Japanese market.
SamGor’s restaurant in Chuodori, Shinjuku occupies two floors covering a total area of 195 sq m with a seating capacity of 66 customers. It features a new lively young fourth-generation design with black and white floor tiles and maroon-coloured walls displaying well-known SamGor slogans. Situated in a premium location adjacent to the East Exit of Shinjuku Station, the SamGor restaurant is conveniently accessible via public transportation. With major department stores and shops in the vicinity, this shopping paradise for young people boasts a strong pedestrian flow.
Over the years SamGor’s culinary delights have won the palates of many customers in Hong Kong. Now the Group hopes to bring the unique authentic “Tam Jai Taste” to the vast Japanese market. The SamGor restaurant in Japan also provides six mixian soup bases, namely clear soup, Mala (hot and numbing) soup, tomato soup, sour and spicy soup, Wula (charred pepper and spices) soup and SamGor sour and spicy soup, with a range of 10 levels of spiciness, following the original flavours of Hong Kong. Its menu also presents 25 choices of toppings, featuring food ingredients popular in Hong Kong such as chicken, pork belly and minced pork. Other signature dishes on offer include Tufei chicken wings and sliced pork belly with mashed garlic. In addition, the restaurant serves some local items preferred by Japanese patrons like quail eggs and deep-fried tofu (abura-age).
As a leading and renowned mixian-specialised fast casual restaurant chain in Hong Kong, TJI has opened 157 restaurants across Hong Kong, Mainland China and Singapore as at the end of September 2021, and aims to further expand the store network. Besides the Chuodori restaurant in Shinjuku, the Group plans to open two more restaurants in Kichijoji and Ebisu, Japan, one of its strategic markets, this April, aiming to operate a total of 25 restaurants in Japan by FY 2024.
Mr. Daren Lau, Chairman, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of TJI, said, “We are very delighted with the official opening of our first SamGor restaurant in Japan, marking a new and important chapter in our development of overseas markets. With our quality food products, prompt service and market position of providing delicious food at affordable prices, the Group believes that SamGor can address the catering trends and demand in Japan and extend its brand popularity and one-of-a-kind chain restaurant dining experience to the country. We expect to promote mixian as the fourth most important category of noodles in Japan, after udon, soba and ramen, over the long-term. In the future, the Group will continue to actively develop overseas markets in a bid to bring the distinctive ‘Tam Jai Taste’ and our unique brand of food culture all over the world.”
